Yesterday Was Great, Tomorrow Will Be Even Better

It’s amazing how having just a few people to bounce off, helps to spark the creativity and problem solving abilities.

Yesterday I got busy on Twitter and mentioned a few times that I needed some help here.

Sure enough a fabulous group of people reached out. Some leaving comments on the post, others re-tweeting my stuff and someone else sending me an email.

I was blown away by the response – in fact, it knocked my novelty Homer Simpson socks off.

This site is essentially about promoting other people. If you take a look back through the posts you’ll see frequent mentions of sites and people who are connected with this project through “owning” a section of the Mona Lisa.

If you look at my Twitter feed you’ll see that I repeatedly tweet and retweet those who own a piece of my Mona Lisa picture.

I love doing it. I love helping people and I’m absolutely thrilled by the idea that you get some additional traffic as a result of my links and tweets.

I don’t just do it for the people on the Mona Lisa, I do it for plenty of other people too. Generally these will be people I have a connection with i.e. we have a talking/chatting/tweeting relationship but I’m glad to do it for anyone.

My primary concern is obviously promote the hell out of the people linked to this project, and that also extends to those who don’t “own” a piece of the Mona Lisa but who support me in other ways – including commenting!!

I said at the start that I would look after the early adopters and I intend to do exactly that. So you don’t need to be on the Mona Lisa to have me smother you with wet kisses and give slightly over-familiar bear hugs.

So to address a couple of points before this becomes a never ending post….

It was pointed out (in a very lovely way by MrsLJHall) that the purpose this project isn’t immediately obvious. It’s true, it’s not immediately obvious. I doesn’t smack you in the face – and it should!

This is something I’ve tried to resolve time and time again. And whilst I’ve addressed it a few times I still haven’t resolved it.

I haven’t resolved it because I’ve expected my readership to do too much work.

What I mean by that is that all the info is here on the site, but it’s not in one place. There’s some in the About page, there’s some in the Promote Your website page, and there’s some in various posts.

It needs to be on the front page and it needs to be on any given page that someone lands on…. so I’m going to do something about that.

Erica suggested I could look at getting someone to do my promotion for me, which on the face of it seemed to be at odds because if this site is about promotion, how the hell can I purport to promote you if I can’t even promote myself?!!

Well, the fact is I can promote myself, I just haven’t been doing it very well.

Perhaps I was a little naive in believing that this project would promote itself. ~And I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I thought that way, but I did.

But anyway, it’s a good idea. A damn good one in fact. And it also made me think that there may be a whole host of other things I could outsource to make this project really rock.

the great thing about this is I continue to learn and I continue to adapt, but it is much easier to do when there’s someone else there to joust with, so thanks again for yesterday, you super smashing lovely people.

There were other things that came out of yesterday, but for now I just wanted to say thanks.
