Why Subscribe (& Updating The Mona Lisa Million)

Post image for Why Subscribe (& Updating The Mona Lisa Million)

On some sites you go to you may see a box like this one:

This box displays the number of people who are subscribed to a site, at the moment the box indicates there are 33 subscribers to MisterGoodGuy. It’s a low number and conventional wisdom suggests you shouldn’t display it until you reach 100 subscribers.

I’m going to defy the conventional wisdom and throw the box into the sidebar. Some people can’t resist seeing the numbers click over and feel compelled to subscribe just to know they’ve helped bump the number up. I’m targeting those compulsive people!

Subscribing is just a way of getting the content delivered to you automatically. I use Google’s Feedreader and every day I get updates from the sites I follow – and incidentally, I subscribe to all the sites on the Mona Lisa.

If you don’t use a Reader you can also get the content delivered via email:

Subscribe via email – Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

Subscribing is a great way to manage the way you read your favourite sites. It means you don’t have to miss out on something that interests you and it also means you can choose to skip over something that doesn’t. Basically you can read the updates at your leisure avoiding the need to continually click through to all your fave sites to check for new updates.

So if you haven’t subcribed to this site, please feel free to subscribe via email above or by clicking on the blue counter box below.

BTW The counters don’t register an immediate change, so don’t sit staring at it waiting for it to change.

Updating The Mona Lisa Million

I’m very glad to introduce the latest additions to the Mona Lisa Million:

In my head…

I am a super organised, immaculately dressed domestic goddess. I have a spotless house, a perfectly behaved toddler and hair that stays where I put it.

In reality…

I forget stuff ALL the time. I wear what is clean and not too creased. My house is (more often than not) a death trap due to duplo and stuffed toys. My toddler sometimes has tantrums but mostly is a good girl. And my hair? Pfffff.

Life is crazy. Good job I’m not entirely sane really.

The life and times of Bryan Sr and family. Bryan Sr has been married since 1983, He and the wife have 7 children. Bryan Sr worked for a large police dept for 24 years before retiring to spend more time with the family.

I don’t keep diaries, I don’t keep notes, I don’t keep thoughts, I don’t keep my mouth shut. I keep my mind open, my life open, and let all read and comment. This is the blog of one person you’ll never meet. This is my diary. This is what I do every day of my life. This is The Voice of the Big Guy.

Thank you all for taking part in the project!

Subscribed! Although it was a bit tedious subscribing through my iPhone RSS app. Mainly because I’m an idiot and unsure of how it worked. Anyway, I should help you get to 100.

I had no idea it was possible to subscribe through an iPhone. That;s pretty cool.

It’s funny, but as i type this reply the count is down to 27. LOL. Perhaps I should change tack and ask people to help me get to zero!? LOL :D

And and and you are not an idiot. I read that post you wrote on SEO and Wordpress. Idiots don’t write posts like that. :D

Aw, thanks! I also used your tweetmeme button with my iPhone and use my phone for most of my blog visits/comments. I don’t think my IT dept can track my surfing habits from there. Ha.

Wow. Those iPhone things sound rather nifty. I’d better add one to my wish list.

It’s probably better for your IT people that they can’t track you. :D

While I was looking up ‘autonomous’ (less big words in your posts please :) ) – I looked up conventional which is defined as ‘ordinary rather than different or original’ – to me that doesn’t go in the same phrase as ‘wisdom’.

I get the saying but I think it’s highly flawed, so put up your reader count when you damn well feel like it – I did; and don’t think outside of boxes – just don’t have a box in the first place.

In other words just do what you want; when you want and how you want so long as you get to where you want to go. Convention is over-rated!

Yay! I love that!!!

There is no box! How true. Who invented this ‘box’ in the first place? They have a lot to answer for.

Wow I feel all fired up after reading this. Thank you Strawberry for this little piece of motivation. :D
