I was encouraged by Danny who enjoys simplicity, and Strawberry who is adept at changing the spark plugs on a Mazda MX5, to define whether this project is a business or a charity (non-profit) and I can say without hesitation that it’s a business. At least it will be when it brings in some revenue. Until then it’s a service.
When this endeavour does bring in some revenue then it’ll be a business offering a service. It will also be a business with a strong social conscience. To some that will appeal and to others it won’t matter a jot and that’s OK.
It definitely isn’t a charity though and I don’t see myself going down that route. That said, a major part of what I do here, with your continued help, will be to contribute a significant proportion of the profits to good causes, most of which I hope will be nominated and then chosen by you the readership.
The Mona Lisa is not the only project I want to run on Mister Good Guy. I want to support various and numerous charities and good causes on the site and I want the autonomy to be able to decide which causes will be supported (again, with your input) and how much of the proceeds will be donated.
I want to support good causes from all over the world and they don’t necessarily need to be high profile or registered charities/non-profits and I think the Charities Commission here in the UK might have a problem with that.
The autonomy is important to me. I want to try new things, different things, adventurous things, unusual things, I want to be open to new ideas and I want the freedom to adapt immediately. Beyond that, I want to keep this as simple as possible which means operating as a one man band with no strings attached.
I said right from the launch that my overriding desire is to help other people and it is. I want to help people with websites improve their online profile and expand their Internet footprint – I want to help good causes by donating money – I also want to help people by offering the opportunity to showcase their good causes on the site through guest posts.
I have covered all of this before. The first three posts I published on the site explain all of this, but to be fair I can’t expect everyone coming to the site to delve into the archives and read them. I know now that what I do here needs to be immediately obvious… and I’m working on that. I’m not embarrassed to admit I’m learning as I go.
I’m not changing what I do here, I’m just shifting and sharpening the focus. The service I offer is a good one and that will be the focus – it just so happens that the side benefits are pretty fantastic too.
Put simply, I like helping others, and I’d like to help you!

Hey Dave,
You are awesome, my friend!! And good on you for putting more focus along with this. I love the idea you are creating – especially how it ties into giving back as part of it’s mission!!

Thanks Lance, helping people is something I’m good at (been doing it a while), the business aspect leaves me with a lot to learn though. To that end it’s fantastic to have supportive people like you around. BTW It is you who is awesome!!
