Mona Lisa Million – Helping You Promote Your Website

The Mona Lisa Million Project is on hold for the moment.

It will be back with an updated format. Check the blog for more information as and when it becomes available or Subscribe via RSS or Email

The focus of this site will be Positive Thinking but rest assured the Mona Lisa Project will live on.

If you want to get noticed on the Web, you need to get talked about… And that’s exactly what I’m here to do.

Take a look at some of the great sites on the Mona Lisa and then scroll down to find out why other people will talk about this project and your association with it.

Please wait for the image to load.

Why people will talk

Well, the spectacular aim of this project is to raise $1 million of which 25% will be donated to good causes.

  • One Million Dollars is a huge target to aim for, and if we get anywhere close to raising $1million, there’ll be plenty of interest in what we’re doing. (Remember the Million Dollar Homepage?)
  • Donations to charity – Through the Charity Challenge the readers of this site decide which good causes and charities to support with donations amounting to 25% of the income. This is a real chance to do something amazing for a cause that’s close to your heart.
  • Plus there’s the Mona Lisa herself… probably the most famous painting in the world. Every month on Google there are an estimated quarter of a million searches for the Mona Lisa. That’s 250,000 a month! Wouldn’t it be amazing if some of those searchers came to see your site featured here?!

So how does it work?

You sponsor a section of my million pixel Mona Lisa image and I’ll…

  • Link your section of the Mona Lisa to your site, so that people can click directly to your site.
  • Mention you in one or more of my regular blog posts as I update the progress of the project.

And it gets even better… (but only if you want it to)

  • All sponsors have the option to submit a guest/promo to suit your own needs as Vilate did when she wrote about her cloth diapers business. (Like I said, this is purely optional but the benefits in terms of exposure and SEO are not to be overlooked.)

Worried that you’ll be sharing a space with spammers and scammers? Don’t be. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with genuine people who run genuine sites. This is not open to everyone. There’ll be no gambling, no “adult art”, no “pharm”, no “get rich quick” and no spam!

To get your sponsorship READ ON!

So…

  • You’ve read my about page and you know who I am.
  • And you understand that  this is NOT open to everyone. To protect the integrity of the project we want only genuine sites operated by genuine people, which is why there is no automatic purchase option (because we need to take a quick look at each site to check that it aligns with the project).

Great!

Listed below are the sections that are currently available for sponsorship along with the price.

To secure a place on this project all you need to do is leave a comment identifying your preferred section from the list below.

There’s no need to identify your site at this stage unless you want to. I’ll get back to you at the email address you enter when you leave a comment. (No one else sees your email address.)

I’ll explain everything else via email – and rest assured you can back out at anytime prior to payment because I really want you to be happy to be a part of this!

It’s a Paypal Thing

Just so you know… Prices are listed in US Dollars and GBP (Great British Pounds) and payment is made through Paypal, but you can pay in any currency that Paypal accepts.

So there you go! Leave a comment identifying the section you want to sponsor and I’ll get back to you.

(Hover over the main image to find the section reference (prefixed R1, R2 & R3))

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dave

Sections Available To Sponsor:

Only zones A to P are available for sponsorship at present.

You are welcome to overpay especially if you are keen to get your site in the Top Ten Sponsors list shown in the sidebar & on the front page.

Get ‘em while they’re free, but remember as part of the deal I need a blog post from yiou linking back to me and you must be a genuine person with a genuine endeavour. I don’t want to link to gambling sites, or pharm, or pictures of people in the nip doing rude things either alone or together. It’ll ensure the integrity of the project and ensure the value of the outgoing links.
Now, leave me a message telling me you want to be part of this!!

Hi Dave,

I love this idea and am glad Tara pointed us all over in your direction. One question though and I’m either being naive or thick or cynical or all of the above at the same time…. but if you do raise the amazing total of $1 million, then $250,000 is going to charity. What’s happening to the other $750,000?

I’m guessing it’s yours for all the hard work this must be, and hey, why not, but I thought I’d find out for definite… you may have amazing other plans…

Hi Harriet, thank you for the kind words.

It’s a really good question. I’ve tried to keep it a simple as possible (having originally made it as complicated as I could by having a sliding scale of how much I’d donate depending on how much money came in).

As any income would be treated as earnings I’ve earmarked 50% for tax(!!!) and I’ve assumed I’ll reach the target. I want to keep a margin of safety and with this but whatever is left over could be ploughed back in to the project or donated.

25% will be donated and 25% will be my pay, but from that ‘pay’ I’d use some to finance some outsourcing and build the project.

Actually you’ve prompted me to write a more in depth post on this!! So, thank you.

I’ll send you an email tomorrow :-)

Fascinating idea. Dp and I have discussed tithing to charity but not at the dollar for them, dollar for us, 2 for the taxman rate. Then again, we aren’t dreaming quite as big as you are either.

One question – why is it dollars?

Reply

Hi liveotherwise!
By all means you can join in. I’d be delighted :D
Sharing the after tax income 50/50 with good causes feels like the right thing to do. If this project raises the desired figure it will mean a lot of money and frankly it doesn’t feel quite right keeping it all to myself. It seems a shame the taxman will do better than anyone else but that’s the way life is.

I have much more to learn though, so maybe with a good accountant we can find ways to minimise the tax burden?

I’m working in dollars because it seems to be the currency of the internet. Most people easily relate to USDs. In addition reaching 1 million dollars will be easier that reaching one million pounds. I also had the passing idea that the Brits and Europeans would enjoy the benefit of a favourable exchange rate. :D

I’ll send you an email shortly!

Hi Ashley, thanks for showing an interest in the project.
It’s pretty much as I’ve stated above. It’s a chance to be part of something special, something different, something that helps you and helps good causes. In Septemeber the readers of this site nominated three good causes to benefit from cash donations and shortly each of those will receive their donations.
If you want your site linked from the Mona Lisa for free you’ll need to get in quick because when the last of the free spaces is gone (there are 3 left) I’ll be charging $20 each and the price will rise quickly thereafter.
I wasn’t sure from your comment whether you wanted to be part of this or you just wanted to know more so I’m assuming you just wanted to know more.

Incidentally your site won’t load for me at the moment – could be a problem at my end, but I thought I’d mention it.

Thanks again for the interest, I look forward to hearing from you.

Dave :-)

Got to run out to pick up the children from school, but wanted to point out that there’s only 1 free space left now!! Ashley and J, I’ll get back to you later today. :-)

Hi Kelly, not to worry. I’ll still be giving away free sections from time to time. I’ll probably do it through a newsletter (which I still need to set up).

Let me know if there’s anything specific I can help you with in your quest to know more.

Dave :-)

Hi Paula, thank you so much for showing an interest.

In essence this somewhat like the Million Dollar Homepage in that I’m selling a million pixels to raise a million dollars, except with this there’s the obvious hook of the Mona Lisa – probably the most famous painting in the world – and there’s the additional promotion for sponsors in the form of a dedicated post all about them and their sites.

For me the the really great part is that I’ll be donating 25% of the income to good causes, regardless of whether the target of 1 million is reached.

The process starts by acquiring a space on the Mona Lisa. Very shortly I’ll be releasing a few sections for sale at $20 dollars and if you’re still interested I’ll be happy to let you know when that happens.

Home that helps,
Dave :-)
