So I’ve updated my Promote Your Website page as I continue to define what it is we’re doing here. And I continue to shout and rave about the people who have sites on the Mona Lisa just as I did with The Gallery.
I’ve turned my life upside down to make sure I find the time to devote to this project (and to other things I’ve promised people I would do). My continued status as a stay at home dad depends largely on the success of this project (and also on the promised things) and whilst I haven’t quite got the balance right, I’m very close, and I’m raring to go.
With regard to Mister Good Guy, the one thing that’s lacking (or at least, one of the things lacking) is the ‘social proof’ that comes from a healthy comment count. And don’t get the idea that I’m crying into my cornflakes over this because I’m not. I’m a big tough bear of a man who can cope with what is frankly a vicious campaign of non-commenting.
But joking aside, prospective sponsors of the Mona Lisa don’t necessarily see the value in being linked from a blog post. I suspect many believe the true value of the project comes from exposure to a significant in-house audience – even though that isn’t necessarily correct.
Anyway I’ll get to the point…
The point is, I feel some readers may be staying away because I’m selling the sections rather than giving them away as I was before.
I’ve noticed this a lot on other blogs. As soon as money is mentioned people stay away through the misguided notion that they will be expected to buy. They’re frightened that if they stick around for too long without buying they’ll be held upside down by their ankles until the money falls out of their sporran.
It’s a real shame when that happens.
Let me make this clear….
If you comment on this site you are not obliged to buy anything. Ever. Right now I would value your presence over your pennies. Let other people sponsor the Mona Lisa because I need you here for the moral support.
If you like what I’m trying to do here and want to chat but you don’t want to fork out, that’s fine, I’ll love you just the same, and maybe even a little bit more!
Come on… let’s hug it out in the comments. Waddaya say?
Dave

I love hugging. I’m a GREAT hugger even if I say so myself. And you can have several for free . . .

You were born to hug!! All hugs gratefully received and reciprocated.
Dude, you had me at “sporran”.
I’m on board in whatever fashion makes sense. This comment precedes any further study of what the heck you are up to, so my promise is necessarily generic.
For now, I’ll leave it at, “Go, Dave!”
Best to you and yours.

Rick, you are a gent. Thank you so much!!
I’ll go and walk the dogs while you have a look around. You can back out at any time, but for now I’m just so pleased you want to help.

Not deserted you – just not been on t’internet much lately – I’ve actually had to work, worst luck
My priorities will change in a day or so – one more course left to go on, then I can get back to the important stuff of cars, Twittering and blogging. You know, the good stuff:)
Still doin’ my bit for you tho’. I’m like Y-fronts – always there giving support but you only ever notice me when you feel you’re about to drop a bollock.
I’m never far away, so just shout when you need me!

Hahahaha LOL at the role reversal.
The idea that I might have to carry a baby for 40 weeks is funny and frightening at the same time.
Thanks NSM!! x
Happy to say HI and leave hug filled comments – but is it ok to say at the same time that I don’t quite get it? Extra hugs to distract you from that! x

Brilliant. Thanks for the commenty hugs. It’s appreciated.
It’s absolutely fine that you don’t get it. I’m glad you said so. It’s something I’ve struggled with from the start.
I’ll get back to you with a proper answer, but in the mean time… thank you!!!
Hey there, you big ol’ bear!
You and Mona…you two are going places! And I’m coming along for the ride!!
