Helping The People Of Haiti

When I started this project with a view to raising money to help the aid effort in Haiti, it was with the devastation, destruction and misery caused by the earthquake firmly in mind. That was back in January. It’s now two months on and already it’s noticeable that Haiti has been dropped from the news bulletins and print media.

The truth is that the plight of the Haitian people strays from my mind for a day or two before I’m conscious of it again. I don’t judge myself or anyone else harshly for that, it’s just human nature to get caught up in our own lives.

So although I do sometimes forget it’s not long before I’m reminded again. The thing that most often triggers my thoughts about the hardship of the Haitians is the hole in my walking boot. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when the earthquake happened and thousands of people lost their lives and loved ones, my biggest concern was the hole in my walking boot letting in the rain. I wrote about the discomfort of having wet feet and as unbearable as that is, it’s absolutely nothing compared to what the people of Haiti faced back in January, what they face today, and what they’ll face in the months and years to come.

I still haven’t bought a new pair of walking boots and nor will I until this project starts to raise some money.

That won’t happen in any big way until lots more people take an interest in this project. There’s only a certain amount I can do to make that happen so I desperately need your help to spread the word.

It’s the early adopters who are most likely to make this project a success so I’m thrilled with the people and the sites already associated with the Mona Lisa Million.
