Cancer Research UK (& Mona Lisa Million Update)

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to cancer research and the largest funder of cancer research in Europe. It carries out groundbreaking research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. In 2008/09, the Charity spent (GBP) £303 million on cancer research, funding the work of over 4,500 researchers, doctors and nurses. Thier work is funded almost entirely by donations from the public which is why it’s important to highlight the cause. Their research doesn’t just benefit the people of the UK – their findings have a global impact.

My father died from cancer at the age of 59 after a protracted illness so I know how devastating cancer can be, not only to the suffers but to family members and friends, and with statistics that show more than one in three people will develop cancer at some point in their lives there remains a pressing need to continue this vital research.

For more information about cancer and treatments for cancer please click through the website. There’s also plenty of information and advice including how to spot cancer early.

If you would like to see your charity or good cause published here at MisterGoodGuy.com then please see my post about supporting good causes.

The Mona Lisa Million

TheMadHouse – Welcome to TheMadHouse, come in and join Mummy Mad as she blogs about life with two wonderful boys aged 5 and nearly 4 and how they manage through the ups and downs of everyday life and who are all looking positively towards the future after a bi-lateral prophylactic mastectomy in February 2009 due to a spelling mistake in her DNA resulting in carrying the BRCA1 gene. She loves to write, sew, read, cook and craft with her children, spend time with the family and just generally be a buffoon!

Thank you Mummy Mad for participating!

This is late out today. Sorry about that, I’ve been suffering at the hands of the flu virus for a couple of days. Not man-flu either. This is real flu!

And I’m not seeking sympathy – just letting you know. (hmm? Maybe a little sympathy wouldn’t go amiss?? :D )

Hope you all had or are having a good Monday!

Mummy Mad, my pleasure.

It was pure coincidence that I posted the Cancer research at the same time as your text. I did have second thoughts, but decided to go ahead with it.

Cancer can be devastating, but huge progress has been made thanks to organisations such as Cancer Research UK. Prior to my father being diagnosed with cancer I had no inclination to donate to cancer charities, it’s only when it touches your life that you realise how insidious it is.

The thing I’ve discovered about the flu when you’re a stay at home dad, is that life doesn’t stop. All four children still have to be fed and watered and the chores still need to be done – aching bones and fever or no aching bones and fever.

Thanks for getting back to me with a comment. I really appreciate that. :D
