Before I continue getting on with getting on, you may be able to help me with something.
I’m based in the UK and the currency here is GBP but I’m accepting payments for the Mona Lisa only in USD. Mainly because it just seems easier. USD appears to be the currency of the internet and everyone knows where they are with dollars.
The problem is that upon payment… and yes someone has bought a couple of sections! Tremendous news but more about that later… upon payment my paypal account converts USD directly to GBP whether I want it to or not.
I want to keep most of the funds as USD.
Do you have any idea how I can change that within paypal?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Paypal should not convert the currency automatically, at all times you have the option to convert your balance to another currency however.

Thanks Danny, I’m probably being dense.
I deal with international clients, where currencies have been Eu, GPB, and Lebanese Pound. In my experience, when I was paid for services with any of these clients it did automatically convert it into dollars. Which I might add they took a % and did not abide by international rates but their own. So I will assume since I am based in the US it would be a default. With that said, I would think contacting Paypal may be the easiest way to resolve this issue.
Good luck

Gabriella, thank you.
The “apparently enforced” currency exchange is a problem becaaue, as you say, they take a percentage. I’ll need to convert some to GBP, but only when I want to. I’d like to leave most of it in USD so that I don’t pay an exchange rate again when i donate to US based good causes.
Perhaps the direct route is the way to go here.
Thanks for your help!!
